Building Plastic Pollution Free Communities
VAS
Hanoi is the first school in Hanoi to participate in the project "Building Plastic Pollution Free
Communities”.
Within the project a waste audit was
conducted at Vietnam - Australia School Hanoi (VAS Hanoi) from March to April
2019. On 13th of May 2019, VAS Hanoi and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Vietnam
organized an event to share the waste audit results with teachers and students.

The objectives of the waste audit were
to:
• determine the types, characteristics
and volumes of plastic waste in order to identify areas where waste management
reduction at the school can be improved
• raise awareness and create behavior
change by engaging school children in activities that will lead towards a
plastic pollution free sustainable environment. Plastic pollution has grabbed the
world’s attention and is now one of the greatest environmental challenges of
our time.

In order to drive a nationwide shift in
perception within Vietnamese society on the use of plastic products and
packaging, the project aims to engage students by raising awareness and
understanding of the impacts of plastics, and deliver behavior change messaging
and institutional change to reduce plastic waste entering into the environment.
VAS, Hanoi is proud to be in partnership with the WWF and Prudential Insurance
on this important issue.
