VASers and their grandparents “coded” the Colors of Happiness at Grandparents’ Day 2026

17/03/2026

In celebration of the International Day of Happiness on March 20, Vietnam–Australia Primary School Hanoi hosted Grandparents’ Day 2026 under the theme “Colors of Happiness” - an event that connects generations within families and honors the enduring values of kinship.

Held biennially, Grandparents’ Day has become one of the signature events of VAS Hanoi. More than a heartfelt tribute to grandparents—the “keepers of the family flame”—the program offers students a meaningful opportunity to express their love, gratitude, and connection to the generations before them.

Inspired by the message “Happiness for All Families” of the International Day of Happiness, VAS Hanoi developed the theme “Colors of Happiness” as a vibrant portrait of family love. Each color represents a spectrum of emotions and shared memories between grandparents and grandchildren, from care and companionship to simple yet meaningful everyday moments.

On this special day, students and their grandparents came together to create a beautiful “palette” of family love through a series of engaging activities. Familiar melodies filled the air as grandparents and grandchildren sang together, creating a joyful and intimate atmosphere. Sharing the stage, grandmothers and their grandchildren performed short skits and dances, while heartfelt poems—written by the students—were lovingly dedicated to their grandparents.

Beyond the performances, grandparents enthusiastically joined lively physical games, cheering, celebrating victories, and sharing moments of joy with their grandchildren on the school playground. After the excitement, quieter moments followed as grandparents sat close to their grandchildren—holding hands, listening to stories told by grandfathers, drawing pictures for grandmothers, and sharing memorable stories about school, friends, and teachers.

Each moment of the day was like a unique shade—bright with laughter, gentle in the warmth of hand-holding, and rich with the love shared across generations. Together, they blended into a complete and heartfelt picture of happiness for the VAS Hanoi community.

Ms. Quach Minh Huong, Principal of Vietnam–Australia Primary School Hanoi, shared: “We always consider family an essential part of the educational journey. Grandparents’ Day is designed to create a space where generations can meet, share, and preserve beautiful memories. Through this, students not only learn in the classroom but also learn how to love, appreciate, and uphold family values.”

In VAS Hanoi’s educational philosophy, family, school, and students are seen as three vital pillars in nurturing and developing each individual comprehensively. Organizing Grandparents’ Day on a regular basis is one way the school builds a connected educational community, where generations accompany students throughout their growth.

The event is not only an opportunity for students to express their love for their grandparents but also a meaningful occasion for family members to share, understand, and strengthen their bonds. Ultimately, it reminds everyone that “happiness” does not need to be sought far and wide—it lies in the simplest moments, when grandparents hold their grandchildren’s hands and together paint their own “Colors of Happiness.”
