Time allocation for Cambridge program subjects/ week
The Cambridge Primary English Program develops listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English, helping students communicate and think completely in English. The first step for students to confidently master the language and develop necessary skills appropriate to each stage. Competitions are held throughout the school year such as: Spelling Bee, poetry writing composition, story telling, presentation, story creation,... along with practical excursions to help students improve their vocabulary, easily express personal opinions and be proactive in group activities. Competition themes and excursion locations are regularly changed to match the learning content as well as create excitement for students. Competitions outside of school are also focused on such as ASMO, HIPPO,...
The primary Maths program has 3 main contents: Arithmetic, Geometry and Measurement, Statistics and Probability. In the Cambridge Maths program, students learn about theory, rules, methods... helping them to have logical arguments, quickly and accurately analyse algorithmic elements of each particular or general problem. Doing Maths in English will help students practise both skills (English and Maths) at the same time and improve their proficiency. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in international competitions such as TIMO, SEAMO, HKIMO, BBB...
Science is considered as one of the most attractive subjects, students have access to basic scientific knowledge, learn about things and phenomena happening around them such as why it rains, how plants photosynthesize ... VAS students learn not only about theory, but also learn from practical activities such as planting trees, observing the living conditions of some animals, and learning about the natural conditions of sunrise and sunset, distinguishing planets, etc. Students are trained to observe, record, collect data, analyse data, and complete reports. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of this curriculum. International competitions related to this subject are also emphasised by the school and receive a lot of attention from parents and students such as ASMO...
There are two types of assessment: Formative and Summative assessments. Students participate in the assessment of all 3 subjects English - Math - Science with the Cambridge program and 4 skills in English with the ESL and SEP programs. Tests can be grade-based or 1:1 assessments. This method helps evaluate students objectively and accurately throughout their learning process at school.
Cambridge Primary Certificate: At the end of 5th grade, students take the exam to obtain the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint certificate, which is valid forever and helps students easily access and get used to the new learning environment when moving to other schools in Vietnam or around the world.
