VAS Hanoi Officially Joins the ESL-Oriented Schools Network

09/12/2025

The Vietnam–Australia School, Hanoi (VAS Hanoi), has officially become one of the pioneering institutions to join the Club of ESL-Oriented Schools (CVES) — a network of nearly 30 schools in Hanoi and northern provinces that share the common goal of making English a second language in the school environment for the period 2025–2035, with a vision toward 2045. Becoming a member of CVES establishes a strong foundation for connection, collaboration, professional exchange, and the sharing of practical experience, while fostering the development of effective educational models for ESL teaching and learning.

VAS Hanoi’s Strategic Vision in Joining CVES

Sharing her thoughts on the significance of this milestone, Ms. Vũ Thùy Hương — Principal of VAS Hanoi Secondary & High School and a member of the CVES Cooperation & Development Board — affirmed:

"VAS Hanoi’s participation in the Club of ESL-Oriented Schools (CVES) is a strategic step in our roadmap to enhance the quality of English teaching and learning, and to expand international integration opportunities for our students. This is also a concrete action in response to the Government’s Scheme ‘Making English a Second Language in Schools’ for the period 2025–2035, with a vision to 2045, aiming to gradually build an English-using environment across all school activities.”

Within the CVES network, many member schools are pioneers in implementing English-as-a-second-language models, with strong educational practices and valuable hands-on experience. Joining the club not only enables VAS Hanoi to connect, collaborate, and share expertise with peer institutions, but also creates opportunities for the school to learn, contribute, and jointly promote sustainable innovation in foreign language education.

"VAS Hanoi will proactively and effectively leverage CVES’s professional resources through practical experience exchanges, academic seminars, inter-school projects, and ESL competency assessments. Step by step, we aim to strengthen and develop an English-using ecosystem within the school — where English is not only a subject, but also a means of communication, a working tool, and a language of learning in all daily activities." Ms. Thùy Hương shared.

VAS Hanoi’s Innovation Highlights Within the ESL Community

As one of the earliest members of CVES, VAS Hanoi has made a strong impression in the ESL community, with two outstanding projects by its teachers and students recognized at the Innovation Season and featured in the first issue of the ESL Newsletter:

  • Check’n’Point – First Prize at Innovation Season:

A project by Ms. Đặng Thuỳ Linh and Ms. Vũ Mỹ Hạnh from the VAS Hanoi Secondary English Department, Check’n’Point AI is designed and developed specifically for VAS Hanoi students with two core objectives:

(1) Personalizing learning pathways through data-driven analysis based on skills, task types, and each student’s individual proficiency;

(2) Helping students familiarize themselves with digital assessment formats through realistic exam simulations aligned with international testing trends.

The platform is powered by an AI system trained on a specialized dataset consisting of exam materials, rubrics, and competency standards from Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and ESL frameworks. This enables the AI Assistant to provide instant feedback, clarify correct and incorrect answers, suggest task strategies, and guide students toward skill development aligned with expected learning outcomes.

Beyond EFL, ESL, and Use of English, the system also analyzes English-medium academic subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Global Perspectives, Business, and Enterprise, identifying strengths and gaps across task types ranging from problem-solving to critical reasoning. Teachers can use a real-time data dashboard to monitor progress, group students for targeted support, and adjust instruction; meanwhile, parents receive multi-layered reports that track student growth across various time points.

The entire system is governed by an AI Ethics framework, ensuring data protection, minimizing bias, and upholding the values of safe, humane, and learner-centered education.

  • Wild About English – Second Prize at Innovation Season:

A project by Ms. Nguyễn Phương Nga, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thuỳ Ngân, and Ms. Janine Van Der Wielen from the VAS Hanoi Primary English Department, Wild About English implements a “100% English Friday” model through the creation of English-speaking zones, engaging playground activities, and a student-led English Patrol team.

The school has progressively expanded its network of English Zones, establishing a safe and encouraging environment where students are motivated to use English proactively and communicate confidently in natural, everyday situations.

These two innovative initiatives showcase a forward-thinking approach to designing learning activities that encourage students to engage with English more proactively, naturally, and effectively. They mark an important milestone and serve as strong evidence of VAS Hanoi’s commitment to fostering creativity in order to continuously enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

VAS Hanoi’s membership in CVES represents a new stride in its strategy for international educational integration, while also strengthening the school’s position within the community of ESL-oriented institutions.

With the support of CVES, VAS Hanoi remains steadfast in its mission to build a learning environment that is exemplary, creative, and effective—empowering every student to develop well-rounded English competencies and confidently integrate into a globalized future.
