Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi wins ASEAN Eco-Schools Vietnam Award 2024

30/12/2024

Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi, along with 83 other schools nationwide, has contributed inspiring stories of creativity, dedication, and responsibility. Through practical teaching and learning activities, the school has consistently prioritized educating students about environmental protection, aiming to create a green, clean, and beautiful learning environment. Over the years, it has spread numerous positive values to teachers, students, and parents alike.

Honored and proud to have been awarded Second Prize by the judging panel, Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi once again reaffirms its position as one of the leading schools in sustainable and holistic education. This achievement serves as a motivation for the school’s teachers and students to continue developing innovative projects tied to environmental protection and raising community awareness about the vital role of a green environment in our lives.

“The determination of our teachers and students to participate in this competition serves as a statement of our efforts and commitment to joining the community in environmental protection activities and building a green lifestyle. This award is a well-deserved recognition of the hard work we have put in over the years. We are delighted and proud to receive this honor and to be recognized as the ASEAN Eco-School of Vietnam 2024,” shared Ms. Quách Minh Hương, Principal of Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi, upon receiving the award.

Over the years, Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi has implemented practical programs and activities to protect the environment, not only within the school campus but also extending their impact to the wider community. The school has a long-term plan and clear objectives, including reducing the use of plastic and single-use products, promoting reuse and recycling, and advancing the use of green energy sources.

The annual “Green Day” event has become a signature activity of VAS Hanoi, featuring a team of Leaders composed of outstanding and responsible students. These leaders play a key role in promoting environmental protection initiatives both inside and outside the school, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Topics such as natural resource conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable development are integrated into lessons across various subjects, including Vietnamese, Life Skills, Science, Geography, Art, and English. This approach enriches students' knowledge while encouraging them to apply what they learn in practical ways.

Students are not only taught theory but are also given opportunities to participate in hands-on activities, such as cleaning the school campus, creating ecological gardens, and recycling everyday items. Through experiential learning and meaningful projects like “Waste into Life”, “Green Path – Clean Spot”, “Nature’s Ambassadors”, and “Environment and Natural Resources”, students develop essential environmental protection skills.

These projects not only foster creativity but also enhance teamwork and collaboration skills, equipping students to become proactive contributors to a sustainable future.

The school's infrastructure clearly reflects its commitment to sustainability and environmental friendliness, such as the provision of waste separation bins and the investment in the 15,000m² Totto-Chan Creative Experience Center. Most of the center’s area is dedicated to planting greenery, providing students with opportunities to learn about the environment and engage in tree planting and environmental protection projects.

In line with the criteria set by the award’s judging panel, Viet-Australian Primary School Hanoi was highly evaluated across multiple aspects, demonstrating practicality and relevance. This recognition aligns with the school’s ongoing and future goals in sustainable education.

The ASEAN Eco-School Award is a key activity within the framework of ASEAN environmental cooperation. Hosting the award in Vietnam not only reflects the country’s commitment to ASEAN but also contributes positively to the development of eco-school and green school models in Vietnam. This year, the award is chaired by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with the Green Future Fund.

The event honors and rewards schools with outstanding achievements in environmental education, promoting and showcasing eco-school models, spreading environmental protection solutions within schools in Vietnam, and fostering connections with ASEAN countries.
